HIGH PERFORMANCE SPORT CENTER
The 12,637 square meter High Performance Sports Center is located in Quito’s former airport, now the Bicentenario Park. Created for the Ministry of Sports, it addresses the lack of a comprehensive sports facility that accommodates all major sports played by the community. The park’s design includes a network of bicycle routes connecting it to the city, so I propose integrating my building into this bicycle circuit, offering a space for transition, permanence, and circulation.
Considering the surrounding urban context, I take advantage of the sloping terrain by designing a single-story building at street level to preserve the scenic views of the surrounding area. The project includes two basketball courts, a judo mat, a gymnastics area, a semi-Olympic pool, a professional ping-pong arena, a cafeteria, a nursing area, and outdoor tennis courts.
